Libby and Joe: Sneak Peek!

I shot Libby and Joe’s engagement session a few days ago and I haven’t had time to edit them all for a proper blog post. So….I have this one awesome shot to hold you all over.

P.S. I’m driving to LA tomorrow and I’ll be there for 3 weeks. If anyone is looking ahead for a Spring photo session in Utah, I will be back the last weekend of March (and possibly into the first week of April) and also near the end of April. Don’t let this whole 2-city thing scare you ;) I’m very flexible in my scheduling and as long as I can get 2-3 shoots in a weekend, I’ll come up. Be looking at your calendars so that I can fit you in :)

Jeanette’s Vegan Cookies

I don’t actually know the real name to these cookies because I got this recipe from my friend Jeanette way back in high school and I’ve just always called them ‘Jnet’s Vegan Cookies’.

But, if you are craving a healthy, delicious snack, then you should try these! They are seriously addicting and I can’t get enough of them.
I actually made them for my drive back to LA tomorrow. It’s going to be a fun drive ;)

1/2 T canola oil
1 1/2 T warm water
3/4 c brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar
1 well smashed banana (ripe)
1 t vanilla
1 1/2 c flour
1 t baking soda
1 t cinnamon
3 c quaker oats

Heat oven to 375.
Mix ingredients in order (I mix every time I add in something new).
Use ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 6-9 minutes until it’s starting to turn a light brown.
Cool 1 minute on baking sheet & then move onto cooling rack.
Store slightly covered.

Hope you enjoy!

Amanda and Jason

Amanda and Jason went up to Park City during the Sundance Film Festival last year for their third date.
We thought it was a fitting place for their engagement session. It was only 20 degrees outside when we began the shoot. Poor Amanda was freezing, but man did she look gorgeous and stylish! I love her polka dot skirt and red heels. Luckily the sun was out, so it made it a little more bearable (at least I thought it did).

Congratulations on your engagement!

New Music: Bon Iver

I recently came upon the song Blindsided by Bon Iver.

The more I listen to it, the more I want to play it.
I love the simple guitar melody, almost haunting in its beauty.
It has a melancholy to it that is palpable and intense, quickly immersing me into a state of deep thought & contemplation.
This is the song I share with you on this Sunday night.

Baby Charles: 4 days old

Charles Odin Green

My sister and her husband decided to name my new nephew after both my grandpas. Charles (for the grandpa whose birthday he was born on) Odin (for my dad’s dad). Will and James still want to call him Odin, but I think it’s fitting to call him Charles. Too bad my sister doesn’t like the nickname Charlie or Chaz, but wants to call him Char. I like Char but think it’s harder to get used to saying…it doesn’t roll off the tongue the same ;)

Anyways, taking photos of Char was a breeze. He is such a quiet, mellow little guy. He put up with me moving him around and keepin’ his bare skin exposed to the air, which was probably chilly for him. I love this little guy and wish I had hours and hours to hold him (well, that is before I leave for LA again next week). Hope you enjoy the pics!

Mendy

I had been looking forward to Mendy’s session for a LONG time! She is an amazing singer/songwriter who I’ve photographed at some of her gigs. The chance to photograph her for two hours was such a privilege!

Mendy is half-Italian, which contributes to her beautiful dark hair, rich brown eyes, and stunning skin. She is simply gorgeous and I loved that she was willing to ‘be serious’ even though it’s her natural tendency to smile big. I think she looks hot either way. Make sure to check out her website and listen to some of her mesmerizing melodies.

Checking Vitals…

The nurses immediately took the new babe, weighed him, measured him, listened to his heartbeat, and cleaned him up. It’s amazing to watch them each work so fast and hard to ensure the baby is healthy.

gender: male
weight: 7 lbs 7 oz.
height: 21 inches
official time: 2:19pm (on 2/19/09)

Delivery…

The nurses came and prepped the area so that when the doctor came in, everything would be ready to go. The baby was eager to come — Sandy only had to push 4 times (I think). It was incredible as the doctor delivered the brand new baby. Tiny screams were heard almost immediately as he breathed his first breaths of air. I could feel tears brimming in my eyes, but I made myself pull it together so that I could keep capturing the beautiful moments.

Have you ever watched the birth of a baby?

This is daddy cutting the umbilical cord, btw.

Waiting…

My sister was induced on Thursday morning because of hypertension (high blood pressure). She was only 2 weeks away from her due date, so the baby was safe to come at any time: better out than in :)

She was being pumped with drugs to induce labor, plus she got an epidural to help with the pain. No food allowed, she could only eat ice chips (yum) and she just needed to relax until it was time to deliver. Her almost-3-year-old came by for a bit to visit mommy before all the attention was on the new baby. He loved reading books with his daddy and I took him to see the other new babies through the big glass windows.

James left for his afternoon nap and finally, Sandy knew it was time. The nurses checked her and then the monitors read ‘Will come to deliver patient’. Now, the fun began!
